Vienna BioCenter Summer School 2022 (fully funded)

The Vienna Biocenter Summer School provides a unique opportunity for approximately 25-30 undergraduate students to work side by side with leading researchers in a dynamic scientific environment.
The programme aims to attract talented students from around the world, creating a vibrant and diverse atmosphere. It is the perfect preparation for those students who are interested in graduate study in the life sciences arena. Applicants who are successful are provided with accommodation, a travel allowance and a stipend for the duration of the scholarship. The programme, starts on the last Friday in June and finishes on the the last Friday of August each year.
The school is a collaboration between five of Europe's leading research institutes: Research Center for Molecular Medicine (CEMM), Gregor Mendel Institute (GMI), Institute of Molecular Biotechnology (IMBA), Institute of Molecular Pathology (IMP) and the Max Perutz Labs (Max Perutz Labs) and is generously sponsored by the Max Birnstiel Foundation.

Eligibility criteria for Vienna BioCenter Summer School
The Vienna BioCenter Summer School are open to students from all over the world who meet the following requirements:
- Be a bachelor/master student in a life sciences related field.
- To have completed at least two years of undergraduate studies or one year of graduate studies before June 30, 2022.
- Good academic record.
- High level of English language proficiency. Formal proof of English proficiency (IELTS, CPE or TOEFL) is recommended, but not required.
- Proof of enrollment in an academic program for the current and next academic year (proof of enrollment at your current university).
Vienna BioCenter Summer School Amount and Benefits
Applicants selected for the Vienna BioCenter Summer School will receive the following benefits:
- Free student housing.
- A monthly stipend of 1,400 Euros for the nine-week program.
- Medical insurance.
- A free pass offering unlimited use of public transportation in Vienna for the duration of the scholarship.
- Travel expenses to and from Vienna.
- Social events, this includes: An opening dinner, tours of famous Vienna landmarks, a heurigen excursion, a final summer school celebration, and regular Friday night social hours and other campus activities.
Arrangements will be made for foreign applicants to obtain the necessary visas. Applicants should be aware that the working language of the institutes is English.
Research Project
Each fellow will be allocated a faculty member, with whom they will work closely. A diverse range of research projects are available in: Molecular biology, neuroscience, immunology, bioinformatics, RNA biology, stem cells, and biochemistry. The research project will focus on a current topic in the allocated lab. Supported by a member of the laboratory the scholar will be expected to perform experiments, analyse data, generate ideas, and discuss their results. In addition to practical laboratory work the scholar will also take part in lab meetings and journal clubs.

To apply, you must complete this form and submit the required documents by the deadline.
The application period starts on December 1, 2021. All uploaded documents that are not in English or German must be accompanied by a translation. The translation can be done by the applicant himself.
No further confirmation is sent upon submission of the application. All applicants will be recognized after the deadline has passed and results are expected to be released in early March.
The internship begins on Wednesday, July 1ᵉʳ and ends on August 31. These dates are subject to change.
